Since 9-11, when the federal government promised to focus their resources on fighting terrorism, federal agents have raided medical cannabis cooperatives in Los Angeles, Santa Rosa, San Francisco and most recently Santa Cruz. Because there is no federal medical necessity exemption, juries cannot take all the facts into consideration. John Ashcroft's Justice Dept. is forcing hundreds of seriously ill patients, who rely on these support groups, to turn to the streets and black market in order to obtain their medicine while providers face long prison terms for their compassion.
